Optimizing Fleet Operations Through GPS Tracking

Global Positioning Systems (GPS) was originally developed by the US Armed Forces to help with naval and overland navigation. GPS uses a constellation of satellites to beam down encoded time signatures to receivers on the surface. By tracking the delay between when the time code says the signal was sent and when it actually arrived, GPS uses Einstein's theory of relativity and four signals (three if altitude is known) to provide accurate tracking down to about two meters. GPS technology has been moving into the commercial sphere from the military since the 1990s.

GPS fleet tracking systems are used in public transportation, most notably school buses in Kansas City and New York City. These systems allow school districts to know exactly where each bus is, thus improving the safety of their passengers. On flex routes, GPS gives drivers some leeway in adjusting their course to avoid traffic congestion. The secondary benefit is that it allows the school districts in question to better assess idle times, better routing algorithms and fuel efficiency. School officials and parents have a peace of mind knowing that the school buses are monitored constantly.

In April 2007, a private taxi company launched a fleet of 150 GPS-enabled metered taxis (or Meru taxis) in Mumbai, India. Customers will be able to call for a taxi at to pick up at a preferred location and book in advance on the phone or internet. If a customer accidentally left any personal item in a taxi, this GPS technology can track to the specific taxi quickly and easily. All collected Meru taxi fares are transmitted back to the control centre and monitored to ensure that customers are charged appropriately. The company plans to increase the fleet to 1,000 taxis by year end.

In the commercial sector, GPS is used for tracking delivery trucks and trucks used by contractors going to job sites. This allows real time monitoring of what trucks are en route and better tracking of actual mileage used (versus what's billed for). This also increases fleet wide fuel economy, and allows employers to check the actual hours driven by drivers in a day for mileage bonuses and "drive time" pay. H.A. Sun Heating and Cooling Inc. of Bloomfield, Mich. is an example of a company that installed GPS fleet tracking system in every of its truck. The company is able to access real time information that leads to savings in manpower costs (from people claiming they were on a shift for 8 hours, when the GPS showed that they'd only driven for seven and a half), reduced fuel costs and increased productivity and efficient truck routing. For this company, the GPS paid for itself in 30 days.

GPS fleet tracking system has been proven to increase efficiency and productivity in all types of businesses that own fleet of vehicles. In addition to cost and time savings, customer satisfaction is significantly improved through better responsiveness.

GPS fleet tracking can improve many aspects of a business processes. It is the ultimate business solution to keep track of your fleets, drivers, customers and cargo. Check out our daily updated resources on GPS vehicle tracking systems at http://www.gpstrackingsys.com

How Car GPS Tracking Can Help Save Your Life

Have you recently bought a cell phone for yourself? If you have, there is a good chance that your phone may come with GPS capabilities, as most new, modern cell phones now do. Although having GPS tracking on your phone is nice, you may not have your cell phone with you at all times. That is why you may want to think about equipping your car with GPS tracking equipment. Car GPS tracking, one day, may very well help to save your life.

When it comes to car GPS tracking, there are many vehicle owners who wonder why it is so important. What is it about car GPS tracking that makes it worth the money? As previously mentioned, car GPS tracking may very well help to save your life. This, essentially, is because car GPS tracking enables a tracking company, the authorities, or your family to know where you are. In the event of an emergency, this may very well help to save you life.

Although many automobile accidents involve multiple vehicles, not all do. If you went off the road and didn?t have your cell phone with you, you might be unable to call for help. Also, if you were injured you may be unable to seek help, even if you had a cell phone with you. If someone, whether it be a friend, family member, or your work, was expecting you and you didn?t show, there is a good chance that they would start looking for you or contact the authorities. Unless you left detailed instructions on your intended route, your searchers may not know where to look, unless your car was equipped with car GPS tracking. Car GPS tracking would not only show searchers where to look, but it gives them your exact location.

Another situation that car GPS tracking may be able to offer assistance is in the event of a car theft or a hijacking. Should you be kidnapped or taken when the car was hijacked, the above mentioned situation would come into play. If someone knew that you were missing they could activate your car GPS tracking to find your exact location. Even if you weren?t in the car, but it was still stolen, the authorities could use your car GPS tracking to find out exactly where you car is. It is not uncommon for stolen cars to never be found, but with car GPS tracking, your stolen car could literally be found in as little as an hour.

The above mentioned situations are just a few of the many where having car GPS tracking could come in handy. If your vehicle isn?t already equipped with car GPS tracking, you should definitely look into it more.

GPS Vehicle Tracking - Benefits And Usage

If you are concerned about how fast your teen is driving, or if your spouse is being unfaithful, a gps vehicle tracking device can assist you in keeping tabs on them.

A gps vehicle tracker is a usually a small device that you can attach to the bottom of the vehicle by a magnet, or you could secretly stash it inside the car somewhere. They come with a software program, where you can login from your favorite web browser and keep a real time track on exactly where the vehicle is.

Here are some of the really cool features.
Monitor the vehicles speed. If you are worried about your precious automobile being abused, you can set the gps vehicle tracking device to a certain speed you designate. If the car exceeds this speed limit, you will be notified immediately. So if your child swears they aren't speeding, you will have the proof!

Keep track of your vehicle's whereabouts. From your computer you can track in real time exactly where your car is . Did your wife tell you she was going to the gym? Then why is her vehicle miles away from the establishment? You will be able to tell. What about your teen? Did she go to the library or is she over that guy's house that you absolutely cannot stand?

Alerts when out of the designated area. As well as speeding alerts, you can set on your computer, remotely a certain area of where you believe the vehicle should be. For instance, you can input an address and a certain radius within that address. So, if your vehicle goes out of that radius, you will be alerted as well.

Since the gps vehicle tracking device is browser based to track activity, you can access your vehicle 24/7 from any computer, even while your at work. You will simply go to a web page, enter your login info, and bam, there are the stats are your car.

Some of the better devices even store up to 90 days of activity. So, you can see exactly how many times the driver went over your designated speed limit, or how many times they stopped at a certain address which you are suspicious of.

These gps vehicle tracking devices are a cool gadget, and a tech lover's dream. You can now have all the information on your vehicle at your fingertips!

GPS Tracking

Global Positioning Systems or GPS are satellite navigational systems made-up of 24 satellites revolving round the earth. Each satellite has a corresponding receiver on the earth. The satellites orbit the earth at a height of about 12,000 miles. It makes two complete orbits everyday. The GPS satellites continuously transmit digital radio signals that contain data on the location of the satellites and the time taken for signal transmission.

GPS tracking is the term given to the process of being able to locate the exact location of a receiver on earth. Now that the production cost of GPS technology is significantly lower than when it first came into existence, many companies have found new ways to make use of this technology. In GPS tracking, the user is able to keep a track of where they have been using a portable GPS device. GPS tracking can be used in a better way when it is combined with other broadcast technologies, such as a wristwatch or radio. GPS watches, for example, can be fitted with a GPS receiver, which relays a signal to a central command center equipped with GPS software systems. The central command center can track the position of the watch and transmit that information to a third party. That third party may be anyone who needs the position of the wearer urgently. In fact, a variety of such GPS phones and wristbands are sold in the market today. This serves two purposes. Firstly, it provides the driver with an integrated GPS system, without the necessity to purchase a car navigation system, or a PDA-based GPS system. It also offers the possibility to relay that information via a radio or cell phone transmitter.

GPS systems have been used primarily as vehicle locators, especially in cases when a vehicle attached with such a system is stolen. The police, once informed, can find out from the control center where the vehicle is, and proceed to track it down. Tracking is also being used in other fields such as pet tracking, coordinated tracking and consumer tracking.

GPS provides detailed information on GPS, GPS Tracking, Handheld GPS, GPS Systems and more. GPS is affiliated with Free Cell Phone Number Search.

GPS Tracking - Why you shouldn't leave home without one!

What is GPS? GPS stands for Global Positioning System. High above us, there are a group of 24 satellites orbiting the earth constantly providing information to tell us the map location (latitude and longitude) of a car or other vehicle. It also tells us how fast the vehicle is traveling and in what direction.

How is GPS Tracking Information Helpful? * For parents, it takes some of the worry out of your kids driving long distances home from college. You know where they are and when to expect them home. * For parents of teenagers, you never have to wonder if your son or daughter is where they say they are. No more late night phone calls asking - "Where are you?" * For baby-boomers, the shoe is on the other foot - it helps to take some of the worry out of your elderly parents driving home from vacation or just driving around town. You know where they are and this allows them to be more independent. * GPS tracking is customer service at it's finest. You know instantly which of your drivers is closest to the customer needing help. * Imagine how thrilled your customers will be when you can tell them exactly when to expect their delivery! * For employers, using GPS tracking allows you to know how fast your employees are driving, how long a break they are taking (vehicle hasn't moved), and if they are where they say they are! * GPS tracking also allows you to monitor fuel usage based on how fast your employee is driving and the automatic mileage feature reminds you to schedule, regular preventative maintenance. * GPS tracking is customer service at it's finest! You know instantly which of your drivers is closest to the customer needing help. And Imagine how thrilled your customers will be when you can tell them exactly when to expect their delivery! * GPS Tracking can eliminate the need for having your truckers fill out driving logs. * Many insurance companies now offer discounts for vehicles protected with tracking systems.

Auto Insurer's Vehicle Electronic Tracking Device Can Discount Your Car Insurance Premiums

Do you act differently when somebody's watching? Perhaps those crazy dance moves that you perform in the privacy of your own living room wouldn't be performed in the middle of a crowded dance hall?

Is it any different when you drive a car? Would you drive better if you knew Geico were watching your every move… every acceleration… every speed… every brake? If you knew Allstate were watching, would you drive so recklessly?

A handful of auto insurance companies are piloting a program where a vehicle electronic tracking system (smart meter) is connected to the car's electronic diagnostic system and works similarly to the "black box" on airplanes (similar to the device manufactured by Intelligent Mechatronic Systems Inc. of Waterloo, Ontario) The device, among other things, tracks the following:

  • Speed
  • Total distance that you drive
  • Time of day that you drive
  • Aggressive acceleration and breaking
The auto insurer will discount your auto insurance premiums for renewals based on the statistics uploaded from the smart meter.

I'm no statistician but i truly believe that this program makes sense; good drivers should get more discounts than bad drivers. But I think this program will go even further in creating better drivers and, thus, reducing car accidents and subsequent claims. It doesn't say this in the insurance company's marketing materials but this is what I think would happen: When you know somebody is watching (the insurance company) you consciously change your habits; in this case, your driving habits.

So you drive better, have less accidents, and then you get cheaper auto insurance rates. You win. The insurance company wins. Everybody wins!
